What is Gingivitis ?

Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gingival tissue (gums) in the mouth.

It is due to the body fighting an infection caused by bacteria in the tissues surrounding the teeth.

What are the symptoms of Gingivitis ?

The most common symptoms are:

  •  red gums
  • swollen gums
  • bad breath
  • tender gums

If you have gingivitis, you will most likely notice bleeding or painful gums when brushing and/or flossing.

How is Gingivitis treated ?

Good news !!!

Gingivitis is treatable, preventable and curable.

If left untreated it can lead to periodontitis and other health concerns.  Recent research has tied heart disease, diabetes, lung disease, pre-term birth and other health conditions to poor oral health.

A variety of treatment options may be indicated based on a number of individual factors including lifestyle, diet, oral care regime and personal health.

Treatment may include Hygiene Therapy (scaling & root planning), oral home care aids & rinses, and oral home care education.
